| Beginning
with glitter, crayons and colored paper, Marilynn has been
making art her whole life. Early paintings garnered
praise and sales in her hometown community of Woodland, California. At
that time, her focus was landscape and still life. Then,
while studying at U.C. Berkeley, she became disillusioned
with the direction painting seemed to be taking, and, feeling
out of her element, Marilynn turned her artistic energies
to other venues, including Venetian-style paper mache masks
and wearable art and fashion. During the 1990’s
under the signature TOSCA, she created intensely colored,
fantastical imagery on vitrified pots. A favorite theme
was the lady and the tiger, which she now re-visits with
the painting Garden
Party. While these
other artistic avenues were fun and rewarding, each in their
own way, Marilynn’s true passion has always been painting,
and that is her sole focus today. Marilynn
lives in Danville, California, with her husband Frank and
several wild and wooly pets. |

| In
2004 after a creative hiatus, Marilynn picked up her
paint brushes again while recovering from breast cancer.
This disease which affects so many other women today
has had a life-changing effect on Marilynn’s purpose
and perspective. Now, two plus years later, she is
gratefully aware of the “silver lining” to
this unhappy episode – the re-awakening of her
love of painting and a focusing of her imagination on
the strength, beauty and spirit of all that is feminine.
She hopes that women, in particular, will respond to
her beautiful images. As an expression of gratitude,
5% of all profit is donated to the Susan
G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for the
benefit of women everywhere. |
